Rene Burri

Rene Burri
Zurich, 1933

Magnum photographer Rene Burri is famous for creating iconic portraits of major cultural, political and artistic figures of the 20th century, notably Che Guevara and Pablo Picasso. Burri has traveled extensively and produced iconic pictures of these locales, Sao Paulo and Brazil perhaps being the best known examples. Initially interested in film, Burri’s work has a strong narrative quality and he has chronicled conflicts in war torn regions such as Cambodia and Vietnam. His particular egalitarian approach to his subjects lends his work a certain warmth and senstivity which is unrivalled.
