Lee Chantler’s photographs are set in the wintery marshlands of the Fens. The Fens act as a stirring subject for artists and tourists who flock there during the warm summer months, but become neglected marshlands during the winter period.
It is this neglected landscape that is the subject of Lee Chantler’s The Fens series as he chooses bleak misty weather over picturesque sunny skies as his main focus. Chantler presents an unsettling scene devoid of any human presence and yet creates a calming landscape full of lure and seduction.
These artworks play on the idea of curiosity, wandering and the unfamiliar with each one presented in a large scale print to fully explore subtle detail.
Lee Chantler lives and works as a fine art photographer in London splitting his time between working on fine art documentary projects and commissioned work.
Lee Chantler has a BA Honours degree in fine art photography from Cambridge School of Art and won first prize at the Eaton portrait prize in 2009 after coming second in 2008.
