Opus Art with KounterKulture is proud to be showing a solo installation of new works by Hector de Gregorio at SCOPE Basel, 2011.

Hector de Gregorio creates deliciously modern portraits of his friends, with each print on canvas involving extensive research, costume making, photography, digital imaging and hand-finishing in oils, waxes, gold leaf and varnishes. De Gregorio has recently developed this incredibly labour-intensive way of working even further, by collaborating with other artists to add three dimensional elements and installations involving both eroticism and religious iconography.

The Spanish born artist graduated from London's Royal College of Art in 2009, with a Master's Degree in Printmaking, and has since been awarded the Thames & Hudson ArtBook Prize for Printmaking, and the AXA Young Masters Art Prize for his inspiring contemporary portraiture. De Gregorio has shown widely, with exhibitions in London, Berlin, Milan, New York, Miami and Chicago, and his work is held in the collections of Lady Victoria Conran, Mehmet Omer Koc, Theo Fennell and the Boundary Hotel, London.

Running concurrent with Art Basel for the next three years, SCOPE’s new high profile venue at historic Kaserne is just blocks from Art Basel 41. Located in the heart of the city, SCOPE Basel’s new home, a pavilion offering over 5,000 m², will provide the real opportunity for gallerists, collectors, curators, artists, critics and art lovers alike to experience a view of the contemporary art market available nowhere else.
