Figurative and graphic artist Antony Micallef first came to the attention of the public in 2000, when he won second prize in the BP Portrait awards. Since then, Micallef's star has continued to rise.
Confidently crossing genres and disciplines, he has been commissioned by Puma to design limited edition clothing and shoes, exhibited with cult graffiti enfant terrible Banksy, adorned the covers of style magazines Face and Blueprint and been featured in the New York Times - all whilst consistently exhibiting nationally and internationally. Inspired by modern culture and product branding, Micallef's time in Japan had a profound influence on his work. Figurative motifs and the visual languages of popular culture are juxtaposed to create images that, underneath the colourful surface sugar-coating, hint at a darker truth.
