Chris Kettle: Edge of Reality10/08/2010 to 10/09/2010

The artist reworks these classic symbols in his own distinctive, often dark and brooding style; first intricately painting these motifs then deliberately blurring and softening them, this lending them an emotional charge.

Born in 1971 Chris Kettle graduated in 1994 with a BA (Hons) In Fine Art from Cardiff University. Chris Kettle has exhibited widely since graduating, with notable solo and group exhibitions in London, Newcastle, Brighton, Gstaad, Milan and Paris. In addition, Chris Kettle has shown with Opus Fine Art at the Bridge art fair in New York, and at the SCOPE art fairs in Basel and Miami.

Chris Kettle's brand of Still Life has been critiqued widely, most notably by Art Review magazine, who stated that Kettle has turned the Still Life genre 'on its head'. His work has also been featured in The Guardian, The Sunday Times' Style magazine and Art of England magazine.

Lex Thomas: Of Truth of Clouds 8th Jul - 6th Aug 13

Taking its title from critic John Ruskin’s third volume of Modern Painters Lex Thomas’ latest series of paintings linger on the Romantic sublime and quote from a historical obsession with the End of the World. Whilst these works reference the essence of the sublime they also suggest that perhaps modern Man has conquered all of nature apart from his own. With a Utopian quest fuelled by a para-religious pursuit of technological advancement perhaps it is the machines that will win.

Tony Hull: Hot Under the Collar 29th Apr - 28th May 13

Tony Hull’s paintings are made slowly over a period of time and in turn relate to the fabric of things through time. Hull is interested in the effects of anachronism and how cropping or changes in paint handling can alter meaning. The most recent series references contemporary iconography and value systems within the context of 16th century Flemish paintings of children.
