British artist Sir Peter Blake RA is renowned for being one of the key proponents of the Pop Art movement, alongside eminent artists such as David Hockney. He is perhaps most famous for creating the artwork for The Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band album cover, an exemplar of his celebration of popular culture through the use of a myriad of iconic imagery, something which characterizes his work. A highly distinguished artist, his work earned him membership into the Royal Academy of Arts in 1981, a knighthood in 2002 and more recently a major retrospective exhibition at the Tate Liverpool in 2007.
