Leni Riefenstahl
1902-2003
Berlin-born Leni Riefenstahl started her artistic career as a dancer, although this was halted by a knee injury. Riefenstahl then achieved international fame as an actress, film director and reporter. Later in her life, after WW2, Leni developed a keen interest in photography, and famously photographically recorded her stay in Sudan with the Nuba tribe. Luxury edition book 'Africa' is a photo journal charting this unique experience, during which time Leni bonded with the foreign tribe, and was moved by the welcome that she received.
Riefenstahl has exhibited in Tokyo, Finland, Milan and Rome, and was featured in The Sunday Times Magazine, Paris Match, L’Europeo, Newsweek and The Sun as a result of her time in Africa.
Leni died in September 2003 in Germany, a few weeks after her 101st birthday, and is remembered as a major artistic pioneer of the twentieth century.
