Justine Smith
1971
Justine Smith established her place in the art world with her unique renditions of dogs and animals. In particular, Smith is famed for her dog sculptures of collaged Beano comics. In her recent series, Justine has been inspired by currency. The artist famously collaged a world map using banknotes and paper, but here has created much bolder images, accentuated with gold leaf.
Intrigued by what currency represents, with its inherent value yet singular usage, Smith explores this contradiction, and celebrates the symbols that unite millions, with her aptly named Icons.
