Chen QuiChi

Chen QuiChi's exhibiting career began with his own solo show in Beijing back in 1991. Following this celebrated debut in China’s capital, QuiChi has been included in a huge number of exhibitions in the country and is a highly respected name in the Chinese art world. In 2008 his inclusion in Korea’s International Art Fair and London's Kounter Kulture signalled the beginning of worldwide recognition for the artist.

QiuChi’s oil paintings are usually composed of his characteristic faces – each identical, with somewhat hysterical smiles – offset by a vivid colour palette, creating a vibrancy behind which an eerie surrealism lingers. The artist’s work is likely to strike a chord internationally, with his vibrant paintings boldly exploring very modern issues – his subjects to date have included pollution clouds and bombs.
