Caroline List
Caroline List is renowned for her unique and sensitive approach to landscape painting. Her work depicts idyllic landscapes, yet surpasses a superficial portrayal of physical surroundings, inviting the imagination to roam her emotive expressions of scenes. List layers a photographic trace with light sensitive paint to create pieces which are reminiscent of both traditional landscape paintings and old photographs, complementing the romantic landscapes in her work; her use of hyper-colour adds fantasy to this nostalgia.
Having graduated from Chelsea School of Art in 1988, List has since exhibited widely, including several solo shows, with her scenes that occupy a space somewhere between reality and imagination, challenging the rigidity of these categories.
