Forefather of American Pop Art Andy Warhol is now as iconic as the subjects of his famous silkscreen prints. He is remembered largely for these vibrant interpretations of fragments of 1960s popular culture, such as his portraits of Marilyn Monroe and the Campbell’s Soup Cans and Coca Cola bottles images from advertisements. However, his creative energies were boundless broad ranging with his so-called Factory - a meeting and working space for talented, creative individuals – acting as a focal point for the art scene of 1960s New York. Warhol worked as a writer, avant-garde filmmaker and collaborated with rock bands such including The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones.
Warhol famously asserted that “In the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes” and in doing so perhaps underestimated his own phenomenal, enduring success.
