Alioune Ba

Alioune Ba photographs everyday African life, hoping to balance the misery focused upon in the media by revealing the elegance and discreet optimism of his native continent. Ba's photography is subtle, focusing on details of everyday life in the Sahel region - he might zoom in on a wrinkled hand, or henna painted feet. These monochrome snapshots are relaxed and naturalistic, but to viewers exude a vivid exoticism that does not require colour. Ba works in Mali for the National Museum. In his free time he photographs the local culture, for future generations to admire.
